Sales and House Warmings!!!

Yesterday I went to the sales.  It was an awful day of wind and rain and despite the newspapers saying there had been record spending at the Boxing Day sales I still hadn't been.  I really wanted to buy some nice black knee high boots but I couldn't find any.  To be honest I was quite disappointed in the sales in general!

I did persevere and went to loads of shops - many of which would not be my usual shopping venues.  I went to Debenhams, Next, River Island, Schuh, Minstral, Cavendish House, Hobbs, Jigsaw, White Stuff, Joules, Monsoon, M&S, Oasis, Top Shop but I hardly bought anything!!!

I did try a few things on in White Stuff but I didn't like them.  I had tried on a dress in Jigsaw whilst in London but it's wasn't in the sale so it was too expensive for me.  In the end I bought two Red Herring T- shirts and a Principles knitted dress/tunic from Debenhams.  On trying it on I've decided I don't like it.  It makes me look fat.  Of course I'm not really fat!!!  So it will probably be returned.

My son went to Bicester Village Outlet Centre and came home with a Ralph Lauren shirt and T-shirt at very reasonable prices.  I may need to take a trip over to Bicester!

Today we were invited to Rich's daughter's house warming party.  I believe there are actually two separate house warming parties occurring but today it was a lunchtime gathering for family mainly.  I hadn't been to the house before so it was good to be able to look round.  I love houses and interiors.  I wore one of my new T-shirts.

Ready to go in my new Red Herring T-shirt (£8 in the sale), black jacket from Espirit, hareem  pants from Next and M&S shoe boots

A better view of my T-shirt.  It's really fun.  I love it!

Flashing my very cheap, blingtastic, Ebay handbag!

The new knitted dress with heels

The new knitted dress with flats

The new knitted dress from the front looking awful!!!

My other new T-shirt which is actually much nicer than it looks.  Rich wouldn't get up from the sofa to take the photo so the angle is awful and it's modelled with my PJ bottoms!

So do you agree - take the knitted dress back?

Friday Night Fun!

On Friday evening Rich and I were invited to our friend Jane's for a get together with a group of friends.  This time it wasn't the normal Supper Club girls.  There was Jane's two daughters and a few of their friends, Sarah - who is a Supper Club member and two other couples who are friends of Jane and Sarah.

We had a lovely evening of chatting, laughing, eating and drinking.  When will we stop!!!  Jane had even put a box of dark chocolates out which I'm sure she knows I don't like so upon my complaint she went to recover her well hidden stash of our favourites and we devoured a big bag of Twirl Bites and Minstrels!!!

I wore my Oasis dress for the first time.  It's so comfy to wear but I'm not good at getting in the car or bending down in a dress.  As I always wear trousers I'm not very ladylike.  I wore it with black opaque tights and my old black knee high boots.

Over indulgence!!!

Well Christmas is that time when we all over indulge - in spending, socialising, eating and drinking and under indulge in exercise and fitness!  I have to say I can't wait to start my healthy eating and exercise plan.  I feel so lethargic and fat compared to how I feel when I'm watching what I eat and running regularly!

I missed my evening runs with my running buddy, Heather.  And I've hated feeling so full.  It hasn't stopped me eating though.  We still have loads of chocolate which I feel obliged to eat before 2nd January as that's when I will start my diet!  Also drinking so much wine leaves me feeling not so good.  Not hung over but not as fresh and alert as usual.  I feel like not drinking any more but I know I will!  Especially as we are out on New Year's Eve.  I probably won't even last until then!

Also Ive been haphazard with my beauty regime!  Usually I cleanse, tone and moisturise morning and evening.  I also exfoliate twice a week and put on a face pack once a week.  A lot of that has not been happening over Christmas.  I think it's really important to do that at my age!!!  Lack of beauty regime, unhealthy diet and no exercise is not an ideal combination!  It doesn't make for glowing, youthful skin!

I've been giving my New Year's resolutions some thought and definitely my main one will revolve around diet and exercise.  Heather and I have already resolved to do three 10k races in 2013.  Running is great but it doesn't tone up your bingo wings or your stomach so I need to do something else too.  I was doing Kettlercise earlier in the year which is fabulous but I injured my shoulder and am reluctant to put it under pressure as it was so painful for so long.

I'm on the look out for a cheap gym membership for a couple of months.  I don't want to sign up for a year just to give myself a boost to start the New Year.  Once the nights get lighter and the weather improves (if it ever does!!!) I tend to run more, ride more, walk the dogs more so I don't need on- going gym membership.

It's interesting though looking back at the photos I've posted during the course of this blog.  On some I look reasonably slim and on some I look positively chunky!

Christmas!!!

I hope everyone has had a super Christmas.  Does anyone else find it exhausting?  There's all the preparation - cleaning the house, buying presents, wrapping presents (which seems to take forever), putting up the tree (ours died within about 3 days!), grocery shopping along with everyone else in the entire area!  Then I had to go and pick up my Dad.  Although he's not much trouble you still feel responsible for him and don't quite relax.

Ready to go pick up my Dad on Sunday 23rd in my Next blouse, Sainsbury's straight jeans, M&S boots and New Look handbag
Here with my cousin's husband

Ready to go out to lunch on Christmas Eve.  Next
lacy top, sparkly vest, Top Shop skinny jeans and M&S boots

Although Rich cooked on Christmas Day I did all the tidying up (he's a very messy cook), got rid of all the wrapping paper, put everyone's presents away.  Rich got really stressed doing it too. He's usually very laid back.  We all got to Skype my eldest son in Australia which was lovely.  My Dad couldn't quite believe his grandson was on the screen of my iPad!

There were five of us for lunch, me, Rich, my son and daughter and my Dad.  After lunch my daughter and I cleared the table, stacked the dishwasher, washed up everything that wouldn't go in the dishwasher and tidied the kitchen.

Rich and I after lunch!

The table from above and my Dad chilling with the dogs.

On Boxing Day we had a load of friends coming for lunch.  It's an annual tradition.  I got up, tidied the house, prepared the lunch, set the table and chilled the wine.  When everyone left I cleared up again.

Boxing Day table.

Waiting for guests to arrive in Top Shop jeans again and my new Pull & Bear top which I got for Christmas.

The next day same process but for Rich's daughters, son in law and three grandchildren.  Although it's good having such a social time I actually prefer our girlie suppers!

Ready for guests to arrive on 27th in a top I've had for absolutely ages, Gok jeggings and New Look heels.

My homemade lasagne ready to go in the oven.

Almost Christmas

Last night we had a Pre Christmas Get Together at our house with some of our best friends.  I lit all the candles and dimmed the lights (mainly to hide the fact that the Christmas tree is all but dead!) and put on the cheesy Christmas CD.  The champagne and Sauvignon Blanc was chilling in the fridge and the food warming in the oven.

It was lovely to spend the evening with such special people but time always seems to fly by.  One of our friends has lost three stone this year, she says without trying.  She's more than ten years older than me and is looking really skinny and obviously feeling good.  She's changed the way she dresses and was in skinny jeans last night.  It just shows it doesn't matter how old you are you can reinvent yourself.

I wore my new black top which I bought from Forever 21 on Oxford Street and my black skinny jeans from Gok at Sainsburys, my favourite nude heels and my new necklace.  I thought all of my friends looked really good last night but all in totally different ways.  Jane tends to be a skinny jeans and pretty tops kind of person.  Sarah is good at dresses or tunics with leggings and boots.  Heather can wear almost anything because she has a lovely figure but she seems happiest in skinny jeans.  She can wear them with flats and still look fab.  I need to wear heels.

Anyway when I put the bottles into the recycling I worked out that the wine drinkers had each drunk at least one and a half bottles each of wine or champagne!  No one reported a hangover this morning though!!!

Today I had to go to pick up my Dad who has come to stay for Christmas.  My daughter and her friend came with me.  My Dad and most of my family live an hours drive away.  We took the opportunity to go and visit my cousin who had all her family there including her 12 week old baby grandson who I hadn't met before!

Rich is now so used to taking photos of me that as soon as I came downstairs dressed and ready to go he was ready to take a photo.

I've obviously worn these clothes before since blogging, but they are so comfy and easy to wear.  Blouse from Next, straight jeans from Tu at Sainsburys, boots from M&S, bag from New Look.

And here I am with my cousin's husband who made the whole trip for us by making us laugh so much!!!

Shopping in London!

I forgot to mention in my last blog that the dress I wore was from Matalan.  I bought it towards the beginning of this year but I'd never worn it  I took the labels off to wear it.  It was £28.  Bargain!

Rich and I have just come back from our annual trip to London.  We go down on the train on Tuesday morning.  Check in at the Hilton Kensington.  Walk over the road to Westfield Shopping Centre.  Shop and drink champagne.  Go to Olympia to watch the World Cup Qualifier Freestyle dressage.  Back to the hotel bar.  Next morning more shopping then home on the train.  It's a tradition!

Yesterday didn't exactly go to plan though!  I was up bright and early.  Overnight case packed, house tidy, dogs seen to and showered and ready to go.  My youngest son and his mate had been out partying in Cheltenham the night before and probably only been home for a couple of hours.  The friend was semi naked on the sofa, duvet thrown back with a bowl beside him in case he was sick.  My daughter had turned up after we had gone to bed.  She was staying over so that she was here to take my son and his mate to college.  She had left the front door unlocked all night.

However, we were off to London so hey worse things could happen.  We left early allowing us time to go buy a nice magazine to read on the train and a coffee.  We were over half way to the station when my son rang asking if I knew where his keys were.  I'd replied they were in the front door.  He agreed that they had been there earlier but weren't there now.  At this point Rich looked worried, felt in his pocket and pulled out the keys!!!

My daughter and the boys got into her car and we turned round and raced back towards home, hopefully meeting my daughter half way to save time.  It was a crazy drive.  I've probably got a speeding ticket!  We pulled into the car park at the station and the train was on the platform.  We leaped out of the car and sprinted onto platform one, up the steps, across the bridge and down the steps on the other side to leap on the train just before it pulled out of the station!!!

Not the perfect start!  However, after that the journey went smoothly!  We had a lovely lunch and G&T in the hotel bar then headed across the road to Westfield.

It was my quest to find a dress for New Year's Eve.  We went in every shop from French Connection and Coast to New Look and Dorothy Perkins and everything in between!  Mango gets the prize for the smallest changing room!  I banged my head on the wall every time I bent down!  I tried on sooooo many dresses but none of them felt right!  I finally went back to Next and bought a dress that I felt comfortable in.  I was well aware that this time next week it will be less than half price but I couldn't risk not getting it in my size in case I don't find anything else as I've no intention of going to the sales on Boxing Day.

We consoled our aching feet by consuming a couple of glasses of champagne at the fabulous champagne bar.  The champagne bar is in The Village - the designer part of Westfield.  This is not somewhere I shop.  It's all Gucci, Prada, Christian Dior, Tiffany, etc.  It's my dream to one day own a pair of Jimmy Choos so after two glasses of bubbly each we headed into Jimmy Choo.  They have some amazing shoes; many of them with the thinnest of skyscraper heels that I could never walk in!  But I aspire to a pair!!!  I picked the shoes up loving and slyly turned them over to have a peek at the price but there are no prices.  Obviously if you need to ask the price you can't afford them!

Anyway we had an amazing evening at Olympia.  Our golden girl and double Olympic gold medallist - Charlotte Dujardin - won again!   We returned to the hotel for a nightcap and walked into the bar to find Lucy and Daniel, dressage friends of ours, in the bar so we sat drinking G&T with them til 1am.

After a lovely breakfast this morning we headed for Oxford Street.  We had a lovely shop in John Lewis, buying a few presents and I tried on more dresses!  The result was I've bought another dress for New Year's Eve - twice the price of the first one even though it was in the sale!!!  Rich is a nightmare to shop with.  Don't get me wrong, he's very patient, but he expects me to dress like a 17 year old!  So each time I try on a dress he tells me it's boring!!!  The dress I bought today is over-the-top but I think very me!!!

My intention is to try on both dresses with heels and see which one I prefer and to take the other one back!

After that we browsed several shops on Oxford Street and ended up in Forever 21.  Rather appropriate for me I feel!  I'm like a child in a sweetie shop in there.  Everything looks lovely and it's all really well laid out over two large floors.  It's priced somewhere between Primark and New Look so very affordable.  Rich was sat balanced on our overnight case and I was gone so long that the manager brought a chair over for him to sit on and then went over to check on him after 20 minutes because he thought I must have abandoned him!!!

Anyway, I'm going to share my purchases with you.

Loving the bright pink carrier bag!
Doesn't look too good on the hanger but I love this top which has a lace back.
I also bought it in black!
This is a nice glitzy top to wear with leggings or skinny jeans.
I like this checked blouse.  Very easy to wear.
Again just showing this on the hanger doesn't do it justice but I love it!
My bravest purchase.  It's actually really nice and I can wear it with thick black tights or leggings and boots.
I love this necklace - pearls with a bit of glitz!
And my final bit of glitz!

When I FINALLY returned to Rich he was holding up a cream mini skirt covered in cream disk shaped sequins and thought I'd look really good in it!  Hmmmmmmmm I don't think so!!!

Girlie Christmas Supper

Morning!  I'm bright and cheery this beautiful Sunday morning.  Not a hangover in sight.  I've been trying to find my Christmas carols CD but it's disappeared.  Feeling festive!!!

Last night was a real success.  In previous years we have been to the Wine Bar for Girlie Christmas Supper but this year - after changing the venue three times - we went the the White Hart (otherwise known as the Wine and Sausage).  It was a good choice.  Nice atmosphere, good service, lovely wine and delicious food.

There were eight of us and most of us were on good form and entering into the Christmas spirit.  Sarah coped well even though she is suffering from a bad back and was drugged up so that she could actually come.

We had great fun opening our Secret Santa presents and then when everyone had opened them each trying to guess who had bought ours.  I got a lovely bracelet from Coast so I'm very happy.  Paola also bought a game for us to play which was lots of fun.  The couple on the next table probably didn't appreciate how loud we were but hey it's Christmas!!!

Anyway, I wore dress number one.  Brave for me because it's quite short but actually I felt really comfortable in it.  So here's the evidence:

I can't believe I'm doing this!!!

Second post of the day!  I've just come back from my friend Sarah's - she needed help eating the cakes she had made - I was completely selfless in volunteering to help.  Victoria sponge and coffee and walnut cake. Mmmmmmmmm yummy!  Anyway the talk inevitably came round to what we're wearing tomorrow night for our Girlie Christmas Supper.  It ended with Jane and I raiding Sarah's wardrobe and trying on her clothes.  I tried on two lovely dresses!

Anyway I thought I should come home and go through my own wardrobe and try on a few outfits.  And - stupidly and stone cold sober, although I have just poured myself a glass of wine - I'm going to post the photos for all to see.  I've got crappy underwear on (luckily you can't actually see it), my hair looks like I've been pulled through a hedge backwards at least twice and I have no make up on so go easy on me.

Here goes!!!

I actually tried this on and posted before - for supper at Claire's although I didn't wear it on the night.  I like it better today.  I think it's a contender.  It's Rich's favourite too.

I actually love this dress.  I bought it recently from Monsoon.  Oooohhhh get me!!! I think of it as a daytime dress but I really like it and it's very easy and comfy to wear.

I thought this would look nice but it doesn't really does it???!!!

I love this top but it doesn't look very nice in the photo.

Princess loves this outfit!!!  I like it too although it's not a very flattering angle.

So what do you think???  What shall I wear tomorrow night?  Or do I need to go back to my wardrobe and look again?!!!
